Christmas

We had such a great Christmas.  I was little nervous about it this year because it was our first time having Christmas all by ourselves without any family.  It turned out ok though! It was actually kinda nice to just be laid back and enjoy the day without having to transport our presents and kids across the country.  Don't get me wrong, we missed our families terribly and wish we could have seen them, but we still had a nice day.

It worked out that Heber was able to get 6 days off over Christmas, the 22 - 27.  He lucked out with the rotation he was on, normally that is unheard of!  We didn't complain though and savored every moment of Daddy time!!

Christmas Eve we had the Bassetts over to help us celebrate.  There was a moment when it looked like they wouldn't be able to make it and Jenessa said, in complete despair, "we have to have someone come over! It can't be just our family!!"  She was in luck and they ended up being able to make it!  We had Christmas dinner, acted out the nativity (4 times so each girl could be the coveted Mary!), watched Luke 2, went over the symbols of Christmas and read The Night Before Christmas.  It was a really fun night, and it was so nice to have such good friends to share it with!  Shelly took all the pictures during the Nativity, so I will post some when I get them from her.

After the Bassetts left, the kids got on their new pajamas and set out pumpkin pie, eggnog and a couple chocolates for Santa.  Those of you who know us, know that Santa is not that big of a player in our house.  We sit on his lap, but Jenessa has known for probably 3 or 4 years now that he isn't real, we don't really put presents under the tree from Santa, and we have never put cookies out for him before.  He just isn't that big of a deal for us.  This year, despite Jenessa telling her that Santa was pretend, Taiya clung to her belief that Santa is indeed real, thus the treats set out for him this Christmas Eve.

Christmas morning, Taiya came running into our room bouncing with excitement, "He's real! He's real! I told you Santa is real! The eggnog is gone, and there are just crumbs on the plate and some wrappers! I told you he is real!!"  It was so cute, Jenessa has yet to be able to say anything that can squash her fervent belief!  Oh our little Taiya!

Fun to see your latest guys. We have similar conversations at our house too. We're not anti-santa but he's a minor character at Christmas. They're getting so big.
